Window sampling allows accurate logging and sampling of shallow soils and can provide an easy assessment of the soil profile. The dimensions of the apparatus also make it popular on sites where access is limited or where disturbance to the ground must be minimised. For extra-tight access sites the kit can be reconfigured and utilised as a hand-held drilling kit.
The method involves a tube sampler forced into the ground via dynamic impact and can achieved up to a maximum depth of 5.0m below existing ground level (depending on strata). Samples are retrieved in plastic tubes for logging. The rig is able to conduct standard penetration tests (SPT and SPT (c)) and dynamic probing (DP).
This method allows for the easy installations of standpipes / gas monitoring tubes within the borehole.
